We forget old treasures and favor of turtle shells and the nests of birds.
Old journals chronicle valuable moments.

The first solo paddle.
A right earned by a swim, is the reason we can do at all .
Waiting into the water, the muck gets thick.

How many times have we failed each other?
How many times have we fought?
Gasping for air as if tangled in tendrils of seaweed.

Out in the deep ,then the body quakes.
This is the history we repeat.
We pull with tired limbs until we reach the shore.
Let the sun set on failure and success.
And it’s not why this place was carved out of birch .

We press on through the unfathomable ,
rinse off resentment and pull with the paddle through the deep.
Connected to where I came,
connected to where I go .
